I'm new, where do I start?

The best place to start is with an Introductory Iyengar Yoga Course. If doing a course is not feasible, then you can also join any of our Level I classes that will teach the preliminaries.

The Introductory Iyengar Yoga Course:

  • is an eight week course.
  • is ideal for people who are new to Iyengar Yoga.
  • teaches the fundamentals of Iyengar Yoga.
  • is a systematic course that starts with the basics and builds on from there.
  • is limited to 12 students to ensure that you learn safely and receive personal attention.
  • allows you to learn Iyengar Yoga with other people at the same level.
  • allows you to attend a "make up" class if you miss out on a class during the course.

Introductory Iyengar Yoga Course Dates

  • Monday 7:30 - 9:00pm starting on 13th May, 2013 with George Dovas
  • Wednesday 8:15 - 9:45am starting on 8th May, 2013 with Ushie Tuck
  • Thursday 6:15pm - 7:30pm starting on 2nd May, 2013 with Shanti Fung
  • Sunday 1:15 - 2:45pm starting on 26th May 2013 with Monica Del Rosario.

Yoga Classes:
  • Level I: This class teaches the preliminaries;
  • Level II: Builds upon the Level 1 training and a wider range of poses are introduced.
  • Levels III and IV: Requires progressively greater knowledge of the poses and the capacity to maintain them.
  • Yoga for a Healthy Back: Builds strength and flexibility in the back.
  • Restorative Yoga: Yoga poses to induce relaxation and strengthen a weakened immune state.*
  • Family Yoga: A general Yoga class for all levels to share with your family members
  • Philosophy Discussion Class: A discussion class that explores topics and raises questions related to Yogic Philosophy. Texts such as The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita and The Upanishads will form the basis of discussion. There are no pre-requisites to attending this class, although some experience practicing Yoga is helpful. Each week the class explores a particular topic or theme.
  • Pranayama: Learn the preliminaries of yogic breathing practices to develop smooth relaxed breath, to improve heart function, and to reduce stress. 1-2 years of yoga practice is a pre-requisite to learning Pranayama.

Restorative Yoga (Two Hour Class): once-a-month

In addition to our regular weekly Restorative Yoga class, once a month we conduct a 2 hour class to allow poses to be held and provide a deep experience of the restorative effect of these poses.
Payment options for this class:

  • use a class from your "2 hour class package."
  • use a class from your "90 minute class package" with an additional fee of $60.
  • pay the drop in rate of $300.

~ Cancellation policy ~

Classes will be cancelled if there is a "Typhoon 8 Warning" or a "Black Rainstorm Warning."
They will remain cancelled while storm warnings are in force.
Classes will return to normal 1-2 hours after the storm warning has been lowered.

Fees

At The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong, we do not charge membership fees, joining fees, or any other hidden costs. Simply pay for the classes that you attend. The majority of our classes are 1.5 hours and 75 minutes.

  • 1 hour classes: $960 for 8 (this package has a 12 month expiry date) ($120 each), $150 for 1
  • 1.5 hour classes/75 minute classes: $1480 for 8 ($185 each), $780 for 4 ($195 each), $220 for 1
    • Eight class packages have a 3-month expiry date. Four class packages have a 2-month expiry date.
  • 2 hour classes: $1720 for 8 ($215 each), $980 for 4 ($245 each), $300 each
    • Eight class packages have a 3-month expiry date. Four class packages have a 2-month expiry date.
  • Family yoga: Adults pay normal class rate for 75 minute class. Children under 18 - $100.
  • Iyengar Yoga For Sportspeople: A class for sportspeople that will help to reduce injuries and improve flexibility. Iyengar Yoga will also improve the sportsperson's ability to focus and concentrate. Ideal for runners, cyclists, swimmers, hikers, footballers, dragon boat racers. Previous Yoga experience is not required.
  • Yoga Pass: 20 classes (60 minute, 90 minute and Pranayama) for $2,400 valid for 31 consecutive days.
