An All Levels Yoga Workshop for anyone from beginners through experienced students, will be sponsored by the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong.

John Leebold is the founding teacher of the Western Australian School of Yoga. He holds an Advanced Certificate from BKS Iyengar. John is also a Registered Osteopath who runs an Osteopathic Clinic in Perth and Fremantle. He is interested in the therapeutic approaches of manual therapy of osteopathy and also the psycho/ spiritual and physiological approach of asana and pranayama in relation to the traditional yoga treatise of Patanjali Classical Yogas.

John runs regular workshops throughout Australia, New Zealand and the USA, and he has taught in the Iyengar Institute in London, England. For the last ten years, John has led annual residential retreats to Bali, Indonesia, where he occasionally pursues his interest of surfboard riding in the tropical aquatics.

This workshop will focus on improving flexibility and stability in the feet. It will also address problems with fallen arches. Participants will use the methods of BKS Iyengar to bring life back into the feet.

Knees: Aligning the Knees 7:30 - 9:30pm $350

Participants will be shown therapeutic yoga methods to learn to strengthen, straighten and bend the knees properly. The knee is the most vulnerable joint in the body and is subject to wear and tear and various injuries. Reduce pain, protect the knee and use the knee correctly.

There will be a new Introductory Iyengar Yoga class running for four weeks, starting Monday, February 25 through Monday March 17, 7:30 to 9:00pm.

Kitty Leung and Lydia Tsang are in the second year of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training program. They will lead this series of classes in English and Cantonese.

This is a perfect opportunity for those who would like to learn Iyengar Yoga, but who might feel unsure of their English.

The knee is an area of the body that is vulnerable to injury and general wear and tear. It is the most commonly injured joint in the body and is prone to arthritic problems that can come with age. It is important to take good care of our knees so they can continue to support us throughout life.

In this workshop, we will discuss some typical knee problems and learn some yoga solutions to remedy them. BKS Iyengar has offered many poses to strengthen and support the knee joint.

Anatomy of the Shoulders (a Sunday Series workshop)

Angela Tam will teach the Anatomy of the Shoulder,
and Linda Shevloff will lead the Yoga Session portion.

Spread your wings: open your arms, release your shoulders and embrace the world.  Learn about the anatomy of the shoulder and how you can improve your posture and relieve the strain imposed by modern life. This anatomy workshop is taught in aid of the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres, a charity which lends support to disadvantaged women in Hong Kong.

Yoga incorporates the concept of union of the body and mind. It can prove difficult to move the practice from the purely physical to a mental and spiritual level.
In this workshop, techniques of self-reflection were used to discover personal meaning from the asanas. The workshop included yoga postures and discussion of their deeper significance.

Angela Tam, a certified personal trainer, will take participants through the basics with a fun combination of illustrations, movements and visualizations. This will be followed by practical application of the new knowledge on the mat, with a yoga session taught by Linda Shevloff.

Angela, a practitioner of Iyengar yoga, is a trigger point therapist who loves to uncover those painful knots that tie up muscles and inhibit our movements - when she is not busy writing about or researching sustainability issues.

Evolution: Asia Yoga Conference opens registration

Evolution Yoga conference

Evolution, Asia's largest yoga conference, to raise awareness of yoga and give students worldwide the opportunity to learn directly from the best international yoga masters. From Western and Indian traditions, renowned teachers Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Shiva Rea, Sharath Rangaswamy and David Life will be joined by many others, including IYHK's Linda Shevloff.

Lectures, panel discussions, music and a Yoga Bazaar will part of this landmark event held June 1-4, 2007 in Hong Kong.

From Amsterdam to Hong Kong

cle souren does yoga Clé Souren, a senior Iyengar teacher from Amsterdam, will lead a workshop at The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong from May 9 - 13.

Clé co-founded the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Amsterdam, one of the largest Iyengar institutes in the world. He teaches workshops, medical classes and teacher training. His gruff, yet wise and fatherly manner, eases students more deeply into postures than they previously thought possible.

    From January 2 to February 13, our studio is home to an Early Morning New Year Sadhana. It runs from 7:00-8:30am every morning, except for Sunday's later session: 8:00 - 9:30am.

    The price is $180 for a drop in, $750 for five consecutive classes, and $4000 for 40 consecutive classes (with the exception of the four day workshop with Birjoo Mehta - January 25 - 28).

    Ten per cent of all funds raised will be donated to Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) for medical aid in world disaster areas.

    simplicity into our practice.

    Birjoo Mehta lives and teaches Iyengar Yoga in Mumbai, India. He and his parents are all Iyengar yoga instructors and direct students of BKS Iyengar. Birjoo has accompanied Mr. Iyengar on many of his international journeys and conferences, often demonstrating poses for him during teaching sessions. In recent years, Birjoo himself has been giving Iyengar Yoga workshops internationally.

    He comes to Hong Kong with the blessings of his guru, BKS Iyengar, in order to strengthen the Iyengar community here.

In February, we're starting a regular Sunday workshop with new topics being covered each week or session. Iyengar teachers will take turns leading the yoga classes.

To begin, George Dovas will do a three week Introductory Yoga workshop for those with no yoga experience. Sessions will run Sunday, February 12, 19 and 26, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
